METRO's training academy "House of Learning" is best in class

10 July 2019

METRO AG's HR departments House of Learning and Leadership Development have been awarded best in class status of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) for the learning and development programs offered at METRO.

EFMD Awards CLIP Accreditation to METRO

With the "Corporate Learning Improvement Process" (CLIP) developed by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), in-house training academies can evaluate the quality of their work. The CLIP process engages the entire company ecosystem in the area of learning and development: from participants in seminars to local training departments and management level. In addition to a comprehensive questionnaire for self-assessment, the certification is also based on interviews with stakeholders of the company, so-called peer reviews. The EFMD experts interviewed more than 40 colleagues from different divisions, countries and hierarchies at METRO.

"We are now a certified 'Best in Class Corporate Academy' and can benchmark ourselves internationally with other companies," explains Christian Rippl, Director House of Learning at METRO . "CLIP is a future-oriented process that offers opportunities, identifies improvements and positions the Corporate Learning Academy as a supporting instrument for the implementation of corporate strategy. The certification is a great enrichment for us".

Future-oriented process identifies key factors

The focus of certification is on identifying key factors that determine the quality of the design and implementation of learning organisations in companies. The aim of the process is to initiate the continuous development and improvement of the company learning function. The CLIP assessment process covers all essential dimensions of a corporate learning function’s deployment within the company: the alignment of its mission and operational objectives with the corporate strategy, the effectiveness of its governance and internal management systems. The EFMD also examines whether the in-house training academy is able to to address key issues of concern to the business units in its learning content as well as its program and training portfolio. The quality of delivery and the impact of the corporate learning organisation’s activities on individual and organisational learning are similarly taken into account during certification.

Internationality is reflected in learning content

METRO AG's HR departments House of Learning and Leadership Development consist of an international team with colleagues from a large number of the 26 countries in which METRO operates. The internationality of the team is also clearly reflected in the learning content and practices.

Martin Moehrle, Director, Corporate Services, who leads the CLIP process at EFMD, commented: “EFMD is delighted that the METRO Corporate Learning Organization has successfully gone through the CLIP accreditation. I would like to congratulate METRO CLO for the involvement of its top management, the dedication of its team, the brand equity and the quality of its learning partnering as well as its learning design capability. We look forward to their contribution to the CLIP community.”

The European Foundation for Management Development is a globally recognized accreditation body.
